Afroza Naznin Shumi is a renowned culinary artist, popular TV presenter, food columnist, a BTEB certified trainer & assessor, serious social entrepreneur and a loving mother. Due to his father's Government service, she had a chance to experience various places of Bangladesh which enriches her culinary canvas. Afroza is a multifaceted woman. She is passionate about learning and successfully completed a course on Food and Beverage Production, Food Hygiene and has also completed many other courses to widen her knowledge and efficiency. A regular household name in cooking shows on various channels. She hosts immensely successful cooking shows with her seamless and spontaneous presence. She writes for Prothom Alo along with canvas & other magazines and papers in Bangladesh. Not only in Bangladesh, she regularly contributes for different publications in India & Nepal too. Two of these publications are the very popular and well respected “Sananda” and “Anandabazar”.


 She loves to teach children and takes regular cooking classes. She presently works for a leading digital marketing agency in Dhaka. Freelance photography is her favorite pastime. “Shumi's Kitchen is her own Catering & Training Institute, and she also operates a Facebook page and YouTube channel named "Afroza Naznin- Shumi's Kitchen" with thousands of followers.  Afroza has achieved numerous awards. Her recent achievement is a Dual language Recipe book with QR code, titled "Cooking with Shumi" which contains QR codes with video instructions for cooking.In addition she has published a Braille book titled "Bahari Ranna" for visually impaired people. She plans to open her own restaurant in the near future. Being a sensitive and or being a sensitive & socially responsible person, she wants to work with children with special needs.


E-commerce and technology

 With the expansion of technology in the country, Shumi’s Kitchen plans to introduce online ordering and online payment. To make the ordering and payment process seamless, Shumi’s Kitchen is launching it’s own ecommerce site where customers can choose their dishes and pay for the products and services within the same website/platform.

1.Management structure

Currently, Shumi’s Kitchen is a sole proprietorship managed and run by one individual. There is a staff consisting of 1 Head chef, 3 prep cooks, 2 event planner and designers and a fleet of delivery services who deliver the food in a timely manner. Soon, there will be an addition of  several staff member for the packaged food division.


 2.Retention and recruitment policies

Shumi’s Kitchen hires well qualified and enthusiastic people for various positions. Chefs, cooks, caterers are hired on a probationary basis. These hires must be qualified for their 

position. Employee Retention is very important to Shumi’s Kitchen and there is a regular performance based bonus plan in place as well as vacation pay, medical assistance and cross 

training is also used for retention of employees.


3.Business background 

Shumi’s kitchen was started in 2011 by Afroza Naznin when she was a housewife. Afroza’s father was a Government official who had to work in different districts of Bangladesh. Due to this, Afroza had the opportunity to taste and try various dishes from different parts of the country. As she was highly interested in cooking, she learnt cooking at a very early age and she became more and more involved in cooking and she loved to flaunt her cooking creations in a very artful way, she learnt and practiced Culinary art. Eventually, she has successfully completed many courses to widen her knowledge and efficiency. She then put her knowledge and training to work and started Shumi’s Kitchen Today, Shumi’s Kitchen is a well known and well respected name in the business world.

Shumi’s Kitchen will be launching their own packaged bakery product line and market them by partnering with retail outlets throughout the nation. In addition, a nationwide network of catering center manned by well trained catering professionals and its own catering service trucks will be launched to capture a well deserved market share.
